Mulgrave River Fishing

Explore the Mulgrave and Russell River estuary

Deeral, the Mulgrave River to the left and the Russell River on the right

Deeral is the closest access point for fishing in the Mulgrave River and Russel River estuary and rivermouth. Turn left into Ross Road just before the BP service station in Deeral. The BP also offers bait, ice and cafe food.

The boat ramp is about 1km down Ross Rd.

The estuary is an incredibly scenic area. Near the boat ramp the Mulgrave River is freshwater. About 10-15 minutes downstream the Russel River enters from the right and this is the saltwater estuary. There are plenty of shifting sandbars so proceed with caution.

The southern arm of the rivermouth is a sandy spit known as Russell Heads where there is a community of several houses. There is no road into the community - the only means of access is by boat.
