The Old Pottery - Etty Bay

This lovely beach is for those who truly want to escape - to experience the pleasure of a quiet unspoilt place but with the modern conveniences of life.

There is nothing like falling asleep to the gentle sound of the waves or awakening to a spectacular dawn and the strange calls of the Orange-footed Scrub Hen. We recommend forgetting the rest of the world for at least a week.

The present owners have been coming here since their parents bought the property in the 1950s. Their mother was the potter and the ground floor of this extensively modernised house was her studio. Family members mostly use the upstairs apartment and mainly come at weekends.

The whole house (for 6 guests downstairs and 4 upstairs) can also be rented for stays of a week or more - check with us for availability.

Many locals consider Etty Bay the most beautiful beach in the area.  It is not well known to visitors despite being a spectacular setting. It is one of the hidden gems of North Queensland. The white coral sand beach is well sheltered from the south-easterly. The backdrop is a wall of rainforest. I could imagine Robinson Crusoe being filmed here. You won't be imagining things if you bump into a large flightless bird - the Cassowary is often seen on the beach or around the village.

The two front bedrooms have single beds with a single trundle that raises to make a double very easily. The main bedroom has a queen bed.

The living room has 2 leather sofas, a TV, dining table & chairs and an office nook. The timber deck looks over Etty Bay. The kitchen is very well equipped.

This is a place for winding down, reading books, swinging gently in a hammock or beachcombing on the gorgeous beach. It would be easy to arrive with food and wine for a week and go nowhere. 

All year: $320 pn (4 night minimum stay)
