A big part of your Daintree adventure is the drive from Cairns. The drive is spectacular as the road hugs the coast below the steep Macalister Range. You pass through Mossman with its huge Raintrees beside pretty St Davids church. North of Mossman sugar cane carpets the lowland and Mt Thornton looms on the horizon. You arrive at the wide Daintree River and drive onto the ferry. There is a real sense of entering into another land. Pull into the Alexandra lookout at the top of the range. The view over the Daintree rivermouth is amazing and on a clear day you can see all the way to Cape Grafton, Mt Yarrabah, Double Island and Buchan Point - they are more than 100km away.
The Daintree to Cape Tribulation area is of such environmental significance that elecrtricity lines have bever been allowed to spoil its beauty. Despite that, Daintree Peaks has all the modern amenities that you would expect - all run by sunpower! The cabins are air-conditioned, they have small fridges, TVs and plenty of hot-water.
You have plenty to explore on the 25 acre property and a lap pool to swim in. You may see a Cassowary, if you are lucky. The beach is not far away either - Thornton Beach and Cow Bay are 10 minutes by car. Both are absolutely pristine, beautiful beaches.
The main building provides a licenced cafe where breakfast (which is included) and other meals are served. You can use the BBQ here too.
Things To Do
The most obvious thing is to explore the area by car and on foot. You have a choice of brilliant secluded beaches at Cow Bay, Thornton Beach, Noah Beach, Coconut Beach, Myall Beach and Cape Tribulation Beach. Go in the early morning when the sun is rising over the sea and the light is golden. That's the best time for birdwatching too.
Walk at least one of the 4 boardwalk circuits:
Jindalba - a 650m boardwalk and 3km circuit through rainforest. It starts just past The Daintree Discovery Centre on Tulip Oak Rd. The very tall (up to 20m) Hopes Cycad can be seen here. Early morning or evening you may see Bennetts Tree Kangaroo. If you are lucky you could spot a Cassowary.
Marrdja - just north of Noah Ck, it runs in a 1200m loop on a boardwalk through rainforest and mangroves to Noah Ck and back. A very good example of a Strangler Fig latticed trunk can be seen here and the beautiful Licuala Fan Palm.
Dubuji - a 1.2km loop and 850m boardwalk through rainforest and mangroves which also takes you to Myall Beach. The start is on the right just before Camelot Close near Cape Tribulation.
Kulki - starts near the toilets just before Cape Tribulation beach. A concreted path takes you to a viewing platform on the north side of the headland with a great view over the beach to the mountains. Go in the other direction from the start and you come to Myall Beach on the south side of the headland.
There are various guided tours available:
Solar Whisper - super quiet birdwatching and croc-spotting trip on the Daintree River. Ph: +61 40987131
Ocean Safari - for snorkelling on the Great Barrier reef. Phone: +61 7 4098 0006
Horse Rides & Eco Walks - ride through the rainforest to the beach or a guided night adventure walk. Phone: +61 7 4098 0022

There is a lot to see in this amazing area of ancient rainforest - slow down, stay a few days and enjoy yourself.

WiFi is not available because the internet connection is via satellite and is highly subject to weather conditions.
Phone reception is limited to Telstra only and is generally not available in the area because of the mountains.
