Cairns / Holloways Beach (12.5km) / mouth of the Barron River (2km)

Turn right off Oleander St into Cassia St which runs down to the beach. At low tide it is a 1km walk down the beach and across Barr Ck to Machans Beach. Stop for refreshment at the pub on O'Shea Esplanade and then continue along the Esplanade for nearly 1km until you come onto the beach and the causeway on your right which crosses Redden Creek. Follow the road or duck down onto the beach and keep going south for 1km until you come to the mouth of the Barron River.

There are usually a few people fishing at the mouth. The evening is a great time to visit and watch the sun going down over the river and mountains behind. Your best way to do this walk is to have someone drop you off at Holloways and then drive to meet you again at the river mouth so you don't have to walk back in the dark.    More things to do...
