About Bramston Beach

Bramston Beach is more or less in the centre of the area known as Tropical North Queensland.

The rainfall is extremely high and is usually over 4m annually at Babinda. Mt Bartle Frere (1612m) and Mt Bellenden Ker (1590m) dominate the surrounding sugar cane fields and banana plantations. Rainfall records for Babinda include 48” in 24 hours and 12” in 1 hour!

• Babinda is a small sugar mill town with an almost original streetscape along Munro St. There are two restaurants: Noi’s Baan Thai and Stag Tavern.
• The Boulders (7km from Babinda) is a favourite swimming spot in the rainforest with crystal clear pools and enormous granite boulders.
• Golden Hole and Josephine Falls (turn off to right 1km south of Mirriwinni). Golden Hole is great for picnics and swimming. The falls are found at the end of a 700m sealed path through pristine rainforest. Kids love the fabulous natural water slide over a long smooth rock.
• Deeral landing, north of Babinda, for hire boats and access to great fishing in the Russell and and Mulgrave River estuary. Cruises to the wonderful Frankland Islands depart daily (www.franklandislands.com).
• Eubenangee Swamp is just off the road to Bramston. Spectacular in winter with the mist rising and Mt Bartle Frere looming behind.
• The drive in to Bramston (16 km from Mirriwinni) is stunning.
• The Graham Range National Park north of Bramston is a beachcomber’s paradise. Wild beaches, massive boulders, orchids and rainforest run for 20 km and the only tracks in the sand are your own.
• Further south are Innisfail, the regional centre with an Italian flavour, lovely Etty Bay and the beautiful gardens of Paronella Park.
• Innisfail Airfield - Ultralight training with King Reef Aviation (ph.Carlo Prete 07-40614792). Runways: sealed 14/32 1353m, grass 21/03 1343m CTAF 126.7
• The Palmerston Highway for access to over 17km of rainforest walks, spectacular lookouts, waterfalls and the Atherton Tablelands.
